Cask No. 85.60

Toasted oak and retro sweets

Speyside, Lossie

Early herbal suggestions vanished from the nose, leaving ginger biscuits, salted caramel, chocolate éclairs, dark chocolate with orange and hints of tobacco, leather handbags and antique polished wood. The palate had wood and spice – we got tree bark and toasted oak, cinnamon toast and chilli chocolate, brown sugar and sherbet straws – pleasantly lively at natural strength. The reduced nose found the chalky sweetness of Oddfellows and ginger Edinburgh Rock, humbugs and bullseyes. The palate was now much easier – teasingly attenuated tannins tantalising us with clove rock, mild liquorice and Victory V’s, chocolate gingers, sugary espresso dregs and vanilla.
