The nose gave us various floral, garden impressions (elderflower, heather honey, parma violets, hyacinth), candy store vanilla and chalky sweets combined with the sharpness of rhubarb or gooseberry jam. The palate was sweet and fruity – orange and lemon jelly slices, summer creams, rhubarb rock and plums, but with some nice, warm, spicy tingles – the rhubarb jam now had definite ginger. The reduced nose found pear-drops, apricot jam and marzipan with liquorice and Fisherman’s Friends warming up the finish. The palate acquired nougat and fondant icing, tinned pears with ice-cream and a long dry, spicy aftertaste of coltsfoot rock.
