Cask No. 68.137

Right on the Nose

$180

It’s great to see a 68 back in the fold. This expression was crafted from 2 casks combined at 11 years old and filled into a 1st fill ex-bodega Oloroso butt. Almost Sauternes-like in constitution, this dram has all the spiciness of classic sherry cask maturation with a brighter fruit component to it.

Tasting Panel Notes

Running our noses along a length of huckleberry taffy, the experience was supplemented by molasses, sesame seeds, cinnamon and freeze-dried strawberries, and orange peel. The palate echoed the nose, with layers of orange, treacle custard, key lime pie and an accent of clove. Water served a slice of rye, liberally dressed with marmalade and honeyed figs. The finish was lighter, its top notes of vanilla mingling with ginger, kiwi and cranberries muddled with mint. At 11 years of age, we combined two ex-bourbon hogsheads from the same distillery into this cask for further maturation and marrying.
