The garden path meandered its way past tomato plants and furrows of sweet potatoes before being covered by fallen dried flowers. The sweet scent of honeysuckle became thick in the air and combined with pink roses to produce a soft perfume. Passing apple and pear trees it became overgrown with bramble bushes before an opening brought us into a pine forest with a mulchy floor and the sweet smell of porcini mushrooms. Finally we found ourselves in a hay barn with heavy oak rafters. The tingly spice of chilli and wasabi was in the air before softening to the new leather of horse saddles. Sweet notes brought coconut macaroons with caramel and fudge whilst a dry finish delivered plum stones and freshly sawn oak.
