Starting with spotted dick and custard, the nose expands in fruitiness (pineapple, stewed apple, marmalade), slowly becoming more exotic, even developing hints of eastern spice. The immediate palate offers cherry, cooking apple and jammy dodger, then mango chutney, spiced raisins, dates and Peshawari naan; the finish discovers spice powders and tree bark. On the reduced nose, moist gingerbread, spiced plums, fig rolls, spun sugar and flambéed banana with cinnamon evoke warm, healing sunshine. The palate becomes smoother with golden syrup, toffee apple and a curiosity cabinet of birnbrot, stollen and hot cross buns – sugar and spice and all things nice!
