January Mid-Month Outturn

It’s mighty cold out there…. let’s warm up with seasonal sippers! This January, we proudly present a Wintry Mix of Malts in the form of eight (8) unique Society casks! It’s also Burns Night tomorrow, so even more reason to celebrate the unparalleled quality of the single malts from the Speyside, Highlands and Islay released today!
The January Mid-Month Outturn has plenty to warm the bones and spark the senses. Our Wintry Mix of Malts bundle delivers a masterclass in flavour derived from the first-fill ex-bourbon barrel. Three lively malts from the Speyside offer distinctly different experiences in the glass. Cask No. 9.228 Picnic in the grove draws upon its fruit-forward make and palate richness to create an explosion of tropical fruits, jams, pastries and more. Cask No. 1.259 Dressed for a Zoom chat offers a more floral nose and structured palate with citrus, toffee and malt shining through. Cask No. 48.145 Thick as thieves brings weight and texture into the fold with hearty notes of stone fruit, honey, dessert wines and just a touch of the herbal character the malt from this distillery is known for. In addition to these three casks bundled together for your tasting pleasure, you’ll find a delightful 16-year-old from our ‘Juicy, Oak & Vanilla’ flavour profile! Cask No. 112.96 Sensory sudoku offers a complex puzzle of aromas and flavours to whet your creative appetite with a toasty, fruity, oily, spicy, tropical jumble of joy. From our ‘Deep, Rich & Dried Fruits’ flavour profile comes another decadent dram from distillery 68 – Cask No. 68.73 Forever young! features hazelnuts and honey, strawberries, pineapple and rum raisin ice cream (to name a few notes our Panel picked up on!). And do your best to snag a very rare bottle of Cask No. 23.78 Smoky seadog from this elusive Islay distillery. Peaty, minerally, medicinal notes yield to a sweeter core of fruity confection in this marvelous sipper!
What are you doing for Burns Night?! Scotland’s favourite son, poet Robert Burns (1759-1796) has a birthday tomorrow and each year the world honours him with poetry, song, plenty of sturdy malt and proper Scottish fare. Last night, members sang, danced and sipped their way through a Burns Night tasting in New York City. Later tonight, Scott Brunow will be joined by special Scottish guest Roy Duff, founder of YouTube channel Aqvavitae and longtime Society member! Scott and Roy will host a Burns Night’s Eve YouTube tasting of our recent Burns Night exclusive Cask No. 68.93 Supper in the Dunnage for anyone around the country to take part in. If you have a bottle of our Burns Night US exclusive whisky, you will be able to taste along, and if you don’t, simply join in with one of their favourite Society malts! We wish you a very happy Burns Night tomorrow and hope to share a (virtual) dram with you later tonight!
