No 'butts' about it....what sets The Scotch Malt Whisky Society apart from so many others is the enormous variety of single cask whisky and the opportunity for discovery this presents. These truly unique expressions not only vary from region to region and distillery to distillery, they are often times extremely different within the walls of the same distillery! Such is the case with the two casks we present today. Each was distilled on the same day at the same distillery and spent full term in sherry casks. Yet, the similarities cease when each bottle is opened as the differences in aromas and flavours are incredible! This is the essence of the Society experience for many members – discovering how diverse each one of these casks can be, regardless of the similarities they seem to share.

Cask 63.62 Mediterranean moleskin is the first of our sister casks is one of the most unique casks you will ever taste! Its flavour profile is aptly assigned young & spritely (extremely rare for a malt that sees maturation in sherry oak) with a vivacious delivery and nuances aplenty. Seven years in an American oak Oloroso cask lends an array of earthy and exotic flavours that will keep you coming back for another sip! Our second sister Cask 63.63 Funky old bodega offers opulent notes of fruits, nuts and chocolates we would expect to find after seven years in a sherry butt. Equally complex but more confection-oriented, this is a classic expression that will provide a delicious juxtaposition to its counterpart.
