Like a vintage dessert wine
Campbeltown
The nose was evocative of aged German Riesling and Tokaji dessert wine with an intense fruity richness and sumptuous oily texture. The fruit evolved into a darker dimension involving dried prunes, dates and figs, perhaps mixed with sultanas and raisins in a bread and butter pudding. A fresh citrus note of orange skin and bergamot combined with walnuts and brazil nuts in a warming and comforting manner. The palate helped to augment this pursuit of excellence with the addition of truffle oil and an intense herbal overtone like sticky cough syrup. Then more fruit with mandarins soaked in Cognac and the oxidised depth of oloroso sherry. The finish was an education in fine tannins that embraced the soft texture of smooth cork that we enjoyed much more without water.
