June’s bottle of the month is a stunner from the Speyside. Distillery 9 bottlings really shine in that 18–20-year range, and this one is among the brightest. Phenomenal richness and lots of nuance to the profile makes this malt especially pleasing.

Tasting Panel Notes
On the nose the Panellists found plenty of goodness, including custard cream biscuits, pain aux raisins, almond pastries and white chocolate pistachio truffles, as well as fresh apples and juicy pears. We tasted lemon meringue, vanilla and toffee while in the finish a wheatgrass zinger arrived, using fresh wheatgrass juice, apple slices and lemon, plus a little bit of ginger. Water added the herbal scent of basil and lime before we got cherry pie, chocolate drops and fresh Seville orange curd. On the palate it was smooth and sweet, with the freshness of eucalyptus. We finished with a classic daiquiri – light rum, freshly squeezed lime juice and sugar syrup.
