The loom of time

Highland, Northern

Pure and immediate pleasure! A wealth of complex aromas including sweetened green tea, heather ales, flower honey, sweetened porridge, sandalwood, gorse flower, brittle waxes, pollens and wax jacket grease. The epitome of refined maturity and beauty in malt whisky. With a little water we got more pollens, chamomile, wildflowers, tea tree oil, hessians and bitter citrus piths as well as precious hardwoods, like the inside of a freshly made acoustic guitar. The palate bloomed initially with dried flowers and rich spices, things like hot cross buns, smoked white pepper, camphor and nutmeg. Then with water, citronella wax, ancient herbal liqueurs, stout beers, hardwood resins, miso broth and verbena. An endless and spellbinding vortex of complexity keeps you perpetually transfixed.

About Cask No. 70.44 The loom of time:

Distillery 70 is one of the oldest in Scotland and has long been a destination for the serious whisky enthusiast. The care taken to craft exceptionally complex spirit shows in the approach - create a rich and meaty style of make through short fermentation and distillation in shorter stills, then patiently age for several years. With time, this rich and meaty veil lifts to reveal delicate fruits, gentle sweetness and pleasing spice, resulting in the harmony achieved with Cask No. 70.44. After 31 years in a refill ex-bourbon barrel, Cask No. 70.44 offers itself as a hallmark example of the textural richness and depth of character achieved through extensive aging. This cask is a must-have for any connoisseur of exceptional single malt!

About The Vaults Collection:

The Vaults Collection is a selection of the finest and rarest single cask, single malt whisky, set aside from The Scotch Malt Whisky Society’s most remarkable stocks over the years. They have been released from the depths of our treasure trove of casks, after decades of slow maturation and careful nurturing. The Vaults Collection represents the whisky lover’s dream: chance to journey back into whisky history, including the opportunity to experience styles or distilleries that no longer exist. The Collection takes its name from the Society’s historical home at The Vaults in Leith, Scotland’s oldest commercial building in continuous use whose connection with the drinks world dates back to the 12th century. Each bottle has a specially designed label and is offered in a beautiful wooden box.
