Cask No. 35.251

Elgin marvels

Speyside, Lossie

This dram grabs you by the ankles and pulls you deep beneath waves of plummy dark, ancient Armagnacs. A world of buffed mahogany, precious hardwood resins, leaf mulch, medical vapour rubs, lamp wicks, demerara rum cocktails, furnitures waxes and oozing syrupy fruit liqueurs. An almost gelatinous sense of rancio envelopes everything. Stupendously deep, complex, visceral and unctuous. With reduction comes profound notes of dark chocolate, very old dry gewürztraminer, boozy custard, lychee syrups, belle-epoch era Absinth and dark fruits soaked in old cognac. The kind of whisky you could go on picking out wee aromas and flavours for hours. In the mouth this one is vibrantly earthy and musty. Full of rolling tobaccos, dried exotic fruits, pistachio baklava, golden syrup, green walnuts, lemon peel, banana chips and hessian. Water moves things close to perfection. Nettle tea, bog myrtle, medical embrocations, aniseed cough syrups, aged orange peels, very old calvados, boot polish, waxed canvas,  black pepper... the list goes on and on. Stunning!
