A friendly reception united hibiscus, jasmine and geranium fragrance with toffee apples and cereals before deeper notes of tobacco and fresh spruce sprigs found pears soaked in calvados. On the tongue a peppery spice excited the senses with wasabi and ginger but soon softened to baked bananas, apples and red cherries as a syrupy sweetness arrived with toffee sauce, marmalade and Demerara sugar. Fragrant aromas re-emerged with water, now combining Turkish delight with lavender bushes. Elements of fresh straw and wood chips introduced drier notes that took us to pine forests while on the palate came soft melon, pears and raspberries with an abundance of fresh herbs, cloves and measured oak.
