News>The 2024 Festival Season Begins!

Whisky Festival Season is finally here, and we’re elated to share the incredible whisky specially created by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society with you! Over the month of May each year, distilleries across Scotland release special bottlings to celebrate their region. From The Spirit of the Speyside Festival to Campbeltown Malts Festival and, finally, The Islay Festival, whisky enthusiasts from around the world visit and take part in tastings across the country as they hunt down hard-to-find bottles.
Here at SMWS America and Society chapters around the globe, we've made it simple to collect our Festival-inspired bottlings with regional ultra-small batch Rare Release Festival bottlings crafted by the Society’s Head of Whisky Creation Euan Campbell as well as several very special US exclusive casks chosen just for you! Here is a roundup of the regions you may look forward to:

  • The SPEYSIDE is known for orchard fruit, vanilla and spice character that lends itself well to ex-bourbon cask and ex-sherry cask alike. Choose your own adventure with myriad styles from Scotland's most prolific whisky-producing region.
  • The HIGHLANDS represent an old school style of whisky production with rich textures and complex distillates that create a bold style you're bound to fall in love with.
  • The LOWLANDS have a reputation for producing a lighter style of whisky but don't let this fool you. Our Lowland malts pack a cask-strength punch certain to impress even the staunchest critic.
  • CAMPBELTOWN embodies the coastal style and all its salty, maritime glory. Rich expressions kissed by the coast provide impressive nuance and complexity in a full-bodied malt.
  • ISLAY is easily the most popular region for whisky production today, and home to the world's favourite peated whiskies. From lightly ashy to stupendously smoky, a wide variety of expressions come from this tiny island that quadruples in population each Festival season!
