Cask No. 71.73

Lively but lovable

Speyside, Lossie

A really fresh nose, which evoked starched linen, bubble-gum, pear skins, sunlit meadows and newly made ceramics. The palate gave us pear drops, clean leather, ginger Edinburgh rock, lime zest, acid drops, liquorice and oak – lively but lovable, ‘like a boisterous toddler’, someone said. The reduced nose revealed beach balls and sandcastles, popcorn, meringue, peeled twigs, buttered scones and milk chews – all light-hearted, fresh and exuberant, like a day at the seaside. In reduction, the palate kept up the lively but lovable theme – liquorice Allsorts (the aniseed ones), Old English Spangles, lemon peel, apple sours, young calvados and humbug heat.
