Mmm – delicious toffee, maple syrup, marzipan and Demerara sweetness on the initial nose; we also got peanut brittle, orange oil, apricot Danish, dessert wine and oiled oak – certainly complex. The palate balanced deep sweetness (old dark honey, malt extract, rum and raisin ice-cream) with playful spices (chilli, cinnamon) menthol, sandalwood and tannic oak. The reduced nose had candy corns, stroop waffles, crème brûlée, eucalyptus and cigar boxes. The palate had crunchy nut cornflakes and syrupy viscosity; we also found definite woody weight (cinnamon, nutmeg, clove) but in a rather cute, far from overpowering way – something of a playful Pinocchio puppet dram.
