The Vaults Collection

Cask No. 35.304

Thine happy place

Speyside, Lossie

Our immediate impressions were of subtlety, nuance and delicate complexity. A wonderful mix of spiced coconut cake, milky chai tea, gorse flower, scented candles, beeswax and dried dandelions. Vanilla scones and extra thick Scottish double cream too. Water brought out hardwood resins, herbal liqueurs, chamomile tea, furniture polish, potting shed earthiness and rolling tobacco. The palate was initially fulsome with olive oil cake, flower honey, linseed oil, floral-tinged waxes, aged farmhouse ales, bouillon stock, lanolin and frangipane tart. Water added things like hop syrups, crystallised fruits, lemon cough drops, eucalyptus tea and toasted fennel seed. Bewilderingly complex and life affirming whisky!

About Cask No. 35.304 Thine happy place:

Cask No. 35.304 'Thine happy place' exemplifies a perfectly-aged cask from a second-fill barrel. This thirty-three-year-old single malt is the oldest we will release in 2022! It garnered impeccably nuanced aromas and flavours from over three decades in a second-fill ex-bourbon barrel, striking a balance between spirit and wood to create a decadently complex whisky.

About The Vaults Collection:

The Vaults Collection is a selection of the finest and rarest single cask, single malt whisky, set aside from The Scotch Malt Whisky Society’s most remarkable stocks over the years. They have been released from the depths of our treasure trove of casks, after decades of slow maturation and careful nurturing. The Vaults Collection represents the whisky lover’s dream: chance to journey back into whisky history, including the opportunity to experience styles or distilleries that no longer exist. The Collection takes its name from the Society’s historical home at The Vaults in Leith, Scotland’s oldest commercial building in continuous use whose connection with the drinks world dates back to the 12th century. Each bottle has a specially designed label and is offered in a beautiful wooden box.
