A Very British Christmas
Break out the Christmas crackers, roast beast and every pudding you can think of…. it’s going to be A Very British Christmas! We are in the holiday spirit and delighted to share two beautiful single cask whiskies from Wales and England!
Wales has a sporadic history of distillation dating back to the eighteenth century, but it wasn’t until about twenty years ago that a distillery made a lasting impact. Distillery 128 was the first to come along in one hundred years and has been crafting exceptional Welsh whisky ever since. This distillery differs from most in its use of only one copper pot still for the entire distillation process. Scottish distilleries typically use two stills for distillation – the wash still and spirit still. Distillery 128 uses the Faraday Still that employs a series of perforated plates to help condense the vapors. This yields a pure spirit that will develop into a complex and flavourful whisky during maturation. Cask No. 128.13 Welsh delight marries this unique spirit character with bold Oloroso sherry influence, resulting in a Jerez-inspired taste adventure packed with boozy desserts and exotic cocktails!
Due east across England from Wales lies the next stop and a distillery that shares something with 128 – this is the first distillery to produce malt in England in one hundred years! That’s right, Distillery 137 has been producing English malt for fifteen years and has quickly created a cult-like following, especially for peated malts. Cask No. 137.12 Phenolic anticipation is a sensationally smoky dram, garnering vanilla-fueled richness from an active first-fill ex-bourbon cask to frame a palate our Tasting Panel refers to as “absolutely massive”! Intense smoke and tropical fruits on the neat palate give way to maritime delicacies when water is added. The expressions from this distillery tend to offer peated elements of the islands and mainland Scotland in the glass, a fascinating duality that will entice all peat lovers!
Explore both whiskies (and save a wee bit!) in A Very British Christmas bundle. They will surely make an exuberant taste adventure for curious connoisseurs and newcomers alike, keeping the holiday spirit flowing through the New Year!
